“The act of living is different all through. Her absence is like the sky, spread all over everything.” ~ C. S. Lewis, A Grief Observed.

“Grief only becomes a tolerable and creative experience when love enables it to be shared with someone who really understands.” ~Simon Stephens.

When President Abraham Lincoln was informed that Mrs. Lydia Bixby had lost five sons fighting for the Union in the Civil War, he wrote this: “Dear Madam, I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are a mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which would attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tending you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.” ~Yours very sincerely and respectfully, A. Lincoln

“Oh, God, I am so confused. I have loved you so much. How difficult this has been to understand. I have felt my faith broken, but I struggle to regain it. For I know you are my God, and you have not forsaken me. Lead me where I need to walk, and let my faith be built anew.” ~ Gladys Chmiel.
