With the new year, I am reminded of a statement principle that someone made recently. People are in a period of crisis or tribulation, just coming out of one or about to enter one. While this is too simplistic, it also is similar to Erikson’s view of human development. He believed that conflict served as a turning point in a person’s development. He also said these conflicts exist to develop psychological qualities or strengths if we prevail through the conflict. We can see this principle play out even during times of trauma and crisis during our grief journey – a parent losing a child, a sibling losing a brother or sister, the loss of a parent, natural disasters, and even unnatural ones such as homicide or the immoral decisions of some on the rights of parents to raise their biological boy as a boy and biological girl as a girl. We see grief comes in different circumstances and may require starting over anew.
It is not easy to begin anew in the midst of sorrow, conflict or crisis. Just because something is not easy does not make it impossible. Among people this may seem an impossible task, but not when we walk with God all things are possible to endure (Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27) Erikson says that when a person triumphs in their crisis or tribulation (this may involve enduring what we can not change), such as a death of a loved one, they feel a sense of mastery or confidence that will carry them throughout the rest of their life. Sounds like a resolution that is begun and followed through to completion. This is not always easy, but not impossible either. In every journey it is easier if we have support beside us in our journey. That is in part what we attempt to do here in Sunrise Aftercare. If we may be of service to support you in your journey please allow us the opportunity.
This is Sunrise Aftercare.
