Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth honors child advocates at annual Children’s Advocacy Days

The Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth has honored Tennesseans for their work on behalf of Tennessee children.
These awards were presented at the agency’s annual Children’s Advocacy Days. Children’s Advocacy Days is an event with over a 30-year history. It is an opportunity for children’s advocates, service providers and others to come together to be inspired by speakers, leaders and peers with the goal of improving outcomes for children, youth and families. The event drew approximately 1,100 individuals interested in children and family issues.
Judge Sheila Calloway, Juvenile Court Judge for Davidson County Juvenile Court received the Senator Douglas Henry Public Official of the Year Award. Judge Calloway’s implementation of a trauma-informed youth justice system has changed the lives of children in Nashville.
The Jim Pryor Child Advocacy Award was awarded to Matthew Marshall, President and CEO of United Way of West Tennessee. Matthew has made great strides in helping children, youth and families within West Tennessee.
Stewart Clifton of Clifton Government Relations received the Linda O’Neal Lifetime Achievement Award. Stewart is a great friend to children, youth and families in Tennessee through his work as an attorney and government relations professional.
The John Seigenthaler Making KIDS COUNT Media Award was presented to Cole Sullivan and WBIR 10 Knoxville for their work highlighting the State of the Child report.
Their in-depth reporting brought greater attention to many of the challenges faced daily by Tennessee’s children.
The Friend of Children Award, was given to Becky Haas. Becky Hass is a local, state and national leader in implementation and support of trauma informed services and communities.
