On Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, Governor Bill Lee and First Lady Maria Lee made a visit to West Chester Elementary to find out how the government in Tennessee can “strengthen, support and enhance our public school system here in Tennessee.
Governor Lee was welcomed by “The A-Team” (the Appreciation Team) that morning before he went on a tour of the school.
The A-Team were sort of his hosts as some even walked around the school with him.
At the end of the tour, they were given the opportunity to ask questions and speak with the governor in the school library.
Some of the questions they had for him were: What is his biggest success so far? What is his best memory from elementary school?
Lee asked the students what they wanted to be when they grew up and some responses were a teacher, scientist and being in the Navy.
Governor Lee told the students that if they continue to do well in school, they can obtain all their dreams.
“Work really, really hard. Do your very, very best. And then you’ll have a lot of opportunities,” he said.
Other words of wisdom were, “Think about what is the right thing to do and always do it.”
Governor Lee was impressed with the school and its faculty by the end of his visit and said that the principal, teachers and other faculty are dedicated to improving the education for the kids.
“There’s a real commitment here,” he said.
He also loved the dedication the students have for learning.
“They’re willing to learn,” he said. “I hope that they keep that desire for learning all the way through k-12 and beyond.”
Principal Amy Wooley said she so excited about this trip that the governor took to West Chester. She hopes that the visit can help the school get the resources she desires.
“I want resources; not financial resources. Just strategies and help that will help every child in this building reach their potential.”
