Freed-Hardeman University celebrated the start of the school’s 152nd school year with the annual Tolling of the Bell ceremony.
This year, the Masters of the Bell were professors Dr. Earl Edwards and Dr. Clyde Woods.
Edwards was the director of mission studies and then the first dean of the School of Biblical Studies. He was FHU’s first director of Graduate Studies in Bible, a position he held for 10 years. He continues to teach as an adjunct professor. Dr. Woods retired in the spring of 2015 after 50 years of service to the university, primarily teaching biblical languages and Bible text courses. He has published commentaries on the Pentateuch and the Book of Isaiah. He is also the co-author of a commentary on Leviticus and Numbers for the College Press NIV Commentary Series.
Woods challenged the student body to maintain FHU’s tradition and told the students that they could make FHU an even better place.
Edwards challenged the student body to make the most of every opportunity.
