Discover Canyon Country with Selmer Senior Center
Discover Canyon Country with Selmer Senior Center Sept. 30-Oct. 7. Highlights include the Grand Canyon, Scottsdale, Kaibab National Forest, Bryce Canyon National Park, Lake Powell and much more. Library Open House Jan. 30
Friends of the Library Open House will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. Are you interested in being part of an organization that helps the community? Do you love the library and reading? Consider being a Friend of the Library! FOL members advocate for the library, spread the word about the library and library events, work with the library to plan fundraisers on behalf of the library and support the local library. STEM Night Jan. 30
Ice, Ice Baby STEM Night, a free hands-on event for the whole family, will take place from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at the CCJHS gym. There will be ice cream in a bag, frozen water bottle flip, scooter hockey, TN STEM innovation bus, and many more! There will be free popcorn for all who attend. Students must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Lifeline Blood Drive Jan. 31
Lifeline blood services will be holding a blood drive from noon-5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at East Chester Elementary School.
Sweetlips Stew/Bake Sale Feb. 1
The Sweetlips Stew/Bake Sale will be Saturday, Feb. 1. We will meet Friday about 4:30 to start peeling 175 pounds of potatoes. Your roast is to be cooked, deboned and left in its own juices and brought to the center Friday evening as well as your items for the bake sale. Please use disposable containers for meat as well baked items. Baked items should have your name and what the item is written on it. It is hard to guess what they are after they are frosted. Also, be sure to bring your own container for your stew. You may pre-order by calling Neal at 989-7342, JoAnn at 989-7523, Cindy at 989-7046 or Sweetlips Store at 989-2156. If you can not make it to the stew but would like to give a donation for the fundraiser, you may send it to Cindy Springer at 3705 Sweetlips Rd., Henderson, TN 38340. We hope to see all of you there around 10 a.m.
Superbowl Stew and Bake Sale Feb. 1
Sweetlips Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Super Bowl Stew and Bake Sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 1. Bring your own containers and come early! Proceeds benefit the Sweetlips Fire Department and Community Center, 4415 Sweetlips Rd. For more information, call 989-7046. Snow date will be Feb. 8.
CC Historical Society Meeting Feb. 3
The Chester County Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 3 at the Senior Center. Our night’s speaker will be Beverly Morton, Assessor of Property. Come join us and bring a friend.
Private Application Recertification Feb. 5
UT Extension-Chester County will be offering Private Applicator Recertification as well as Dicamba/Paraquat training Wednesday, Feb. 5, from 9-11 a.m. at the Henderson City Hall. Private applicator recertification is required in 2020 to stay current with TDA requirements. This certification has to be done by June. In order to receive this training, you must have a valid/current pest certification card. We will also be offering Dicamba Stewardship training, along with a required Paraquat training. All three sessions will last approximately 90 minutes followed with a short quiz. The cost of the training is $25 total. We will accept cash and all checks should be made to UT Extension. Please contact the UT Extension office in Chester County if you have a conflict with this training, or if you need the Initial Pest Certification training immediately at 989-2103. Big Country Breakfast Feb. 8
Get ready for another “BIG Country Breakfast” from 7-10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Montezuma Community Center. We will have homemade biscuits, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy and drinks all for $6 per plate. There will also be some baked goods for sale. Come early for the best selection. These funds are used for the cost of operating our community center.
Finger Fish Fry & Chicken Dinner Feb. 8
Finger Volunteer Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry and barbeque chicken dinner with all the trimmings and homemade desserts from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. Cost is 12 for adults and $6 for children. All proceeds will go towards the operating expenses of the Finger  Fire Dept.
Foster Parent Information Session Feb. 10
Youth Villages will have an information session on becoming a foster parent coming up on Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at their office in Jackson, 24 Weatherford Sq. Youth Villages is a nonprofit organization that provides free training, 24-hour support and monthly financial reimbursements to foster parents to help offset the costs of adding a child to their home. Fourth Annual Black History Program Feb. 15
The Fourth Annual Black History Program will be held from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Senior Center in Henderson. The theme is “Move Up!” Sponsors are the Ladies of the Henderson Community. Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards and Membership Banquet March 3
The Henderson|Chester County Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards and Membership Banquet is Tuesday, March 3, at 6 p.m. at Chester County Junior High School Gymnasium.  Tickets are $30 per person and can be purchased at the chamber office located at 111 E Main Street or by calling 731-989-5222.
