High school senior Zane Bolton, of Henderson, Tenn., has received the 2022 Founders’ Scholarship from Union University that covers full tuition, room, meals and student services fees for four years.
The scholarship came from Union’s Scholars of Excellence competition that draws the highest qualified prospective students to campus for a weekend of interviews and other activities.
Bolton, a student at Chester County High School, is the son of Barry and Joy Bolton and attends Fellowship Bible Church in Jackson, Tenn. He plans to major in mechanical engineering and pursue a career in the aerospace industry.
Union’s Christ-centered mission is what initially drew Bolton to the university, but he said it goes deeper than that.
“They don’t just say they are a Christian college,” Bolton said. “It’s integrated into everything they do. Every person I’ve met there seems to be about that purpose of Christ-centered education. That shows how legitimate the devotion to Christ is at Union, and that’s what sealed the deal for me.”
The Founders’ Scholarship is Union’s highest academic scholarship. Recipients must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average at Union and are required to perform up to 50 hours of leadership services for the university each semester.
