BARBARA F. HODGES Obituary – Nov. 25, 1936 – Feb. 2, 2023

Barbara Frances Barnes Hodges, 86, of Henderson passed away Feb. 2, 2023, at Charter Senior Living in Jackson.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bill Wade officiating. Burial followed in Chester County Memory Gardens. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday and beginning at noon on Sunday until service time.
She was born Nov. 25, 1936, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Francis William and Virginia Therese LeCler Barnes. She graduated from West Port High School in Kansas City in 1954 and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Kansas City in 1957. She was married to Aron Paul Hodges in 1957. They made their home in various states while Paul served a career in the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Henderson in 1976. She worked at Freed-Hardeman College in the Bookstore and later at First State Bank in bookkeeping in the loan department and accounting. Mr. Paul died in 2005 after having served with the Chester County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years, four years of that as Sheriff of Chester County.
She was very active in the American Cancer Society serving as treasurer for Chester County for 20 years. She was also active in the Relay for Life and had done volunteer work in the Jackson Office. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ.
She is survived by three sons, Paul (Tina) Hodges, Jr., of Cookeville, Michael (Dianna) Hodges of Smyrna and Chris (Linda) Hodges of Henderson; a daughter, Camille (Alex) Carpenter of Poplarville, Miss.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Kathryn C. Daugherty of Branson, Mo., and Martha C. Lawson of Kearney, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Aron Paul Hodges; and two sisters, Paula R. Elias and E. Marie Ralston.
