BETTY MALONE Obituary – June 2, 1938 – April 24, 2023

Betty Lou Peters Malone, 84, of Henderson passed away April 24, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital. A come and go Celebration of Life visitation was from 2-4 p.m. Friday at the Activity Center of the Henderson Church of Christ. At 2:45 p.m. the family shared some personal memories of “Buddy.” The public was invited to share a meal as they shared memories and viewed her artwork. She was born June 2, 1938, in Charleston, Miss., the daughter of the late R.L. (Reason Leonard) Peters, Jr. and Helen Box Peters. She graduated from Charleston High School in 1956. She attended Harding University, the University of Memphis and Methodist School of Nursing. She married Jack Malone in 1959. They made their home in Memphis for 12 years and Germantown for 31 years.
She worked at Methodist Hospital Central and Germantown Methodist as a Registered Nurse. She had been a professional artist all her adult life. She had done University Prints for all the schools in the SEC (Southeastern Conference) and had done prints for the University of Memphis.
They moved to Henderson in November of 2003. She did a lot of charitable work for Freed-Hardeman, using her talents especially for Freed-Hardeman University Athletics Fundraisers. She also did artwork for the lobby of the Henderson Church of Christ in 2014 where she was a member.
She loved her family fiercely. Her husband, children and grandchildren were her world. She was an athlete and loved watching sports. She was given the gift of hospitality and loved to serve others.
She is survived by two sons, Patrick Lee (Melanie) Malone of Henderson and Kerry Jack (Donna) Malone of Arlington; a daughter, Susan Lynn (Todd) Malone Humphry of Henderson; nine grandchildren, Shelby (Daniel) Clifft, Zachary (Logan) Malone, Cory (Whitney) Malone, Riley (Victoria) Malone, McKenzie Malone, Hannah Malone, Emily (Clint) Ellis, Jared (Mackenzie) Humphry, and Allie Humphry; great-grandchildren, Knox Clifft, Cooper Clifft, Coen Clifft, Maeve Malone, Stella Malone, Malachi Malone, Holden Malone and Maddox Humphry with two great-grandchildren on the way; one brother, James Peters of Coffeeville, Miss.; and a sister, Nina Armstrong of South Haven, Miss.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Malone in 2016; a brother, R.L. Peters; one sister, Dorothy Helm; and a great-grandchild, Maverick Dean Malone.
