William Columbus Hurst, 79, of Henderson passed away Sept. 1, 2020 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Tracy Snider officiating. Burial followed in Owens Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday.
He was born Jan. 14, 1941 in McNairy County, the son of the late James Wesley and Norine Kingsley Hurst. He grew up and attended school in McNairy County.
In his early years, he farmed and then worked for the truck stop in Henderson for about 10 years until it closed. He then worked for Guinn Brothers, Jimmy Lott and Hunt Brothers.
He married Mary Magdelene Griswell in 1963. They were married five years. He later married Doris Laverne Thomas. She preceded him in death in 2009.
He loved old tractors and vehicles. He was always on the go and enjoyed mowing his lawn and weed eating.
He is survived by four sons, Tony Hurst of Bolivar, James (Dawn) Hurst of Finger, Johnny (Nancy deceased) Hurst of Henderson and William Nathan (Beth) Hurst of Jacks Creek; a brother, Leon Hurst of Bethel Springs; grandchildren, Shannon, Brandon, William, Derick, Cody, Hannah, McKenzie, Kylie, Natalie and Darren; and great-grandchildren, Bo, Brentlee, Lireal, Beth Ann, Hunter, Allison, Harper and Henry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three stepsons, Danny, Darrell and Dennis Jackson; four brothers, James, Raymond, Robert and Junior Hurst; and two sisters, Nola Jean Smith and Emma Jean Wilbanks.
