BRUCE BARTON Obituary – Dec. 12, 1939 – April 5, 2021

Bobby Bruce Barton, 81, of Henderson passed away April 5, 2021 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Memorial Services will be 7 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Shackelford Funeral of Directors – East Main Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at East Main Chapel.
He was born in Henderson, Dec. 12, 1939, the son of the late John H. and Maggie Julia (Story) Barton. He grew up in Henderson as a youth then moved to Texas in his teen years. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1959 and he served for four years as well as two years in the Naval Reserve.
He married Brenda Lee Mathews July 24, 1965, whom he met while working for Caterpillar, in East Peoria, Ill. They remained in Illinois until 1979 when they returned to the Sweetlips area of Chester County. He began driving a truck for Barclay Inc. 1984-2005 as a long haul driver with the postal service.
He was a hard worker and a good family provider. He was a “River Rat” and loved being on his boats and working on them.
He was fortunate to have a good retirement and remained healthy up until this past year when he suffered from COVID-19 symptoms.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Lee (Mathews) Barton of Henderson; a daughter, Tammy Lynn Barton of Henderson; one son, Darin Bruce (Kimberly) Barton of Henderson; a brother, Billy Ralph Barton of Texas; one sister, Francis Brooks of Henderson; two grandchildren, Bradley Scott Barton and John Mason Barton; and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Mason Barton and Sage Ellen Barton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Peggy Jean Pinson; and two brothers, Perry Barton and Jimmy Lee Barton.
