The West TN School Band and Orchestra Association held their yearly All-West Convention in Memphis at the Renasant Convention Center, February 8-10, with the culminating performance on Feb. 10 at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts. In January, around 3,000 students from bands and orchestras all over West TN auditioned for these very limited, competitive spots at the clinic. Chester County High School had four students receiving top scores from among their West TN peers. For the symphonic bands, only 24 trombones are selected – sophomores Kendall Yopp and Benjamin Elder placed 12th chair and fifth chair respectively (Blue band). Out of 56 clarinet selections, sophomore Caleb Emerson placed 35th (seventh chair Red band) and freshman John Frix placed ninth (Blue band). As a result of these placements, John was selected to also participate in the upcoming All-State honor band clinic that will take place this April in Nashville. Benjamin was also selected as second alternate for All-State trombone. Pictured from left to right are Kendall Yopp, Benjamin Elder, John Frix and Caleb Emerson.
