DEWAYNE WHEATLEY Obituary – July 17, 1937 – April 11, 2021

Marshel DeWayne Wheatley, 83, of Henderson passed away April 11, 2021 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, April 16, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Pastor Larry Kirk officiating. Burial followed with Military Honors in Unity Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday.
He was born July 17, 1937 in Henderson, the son of the late Homer Hayes and Sarah Elizabeth “Sadie” Miller Wheatley. He grew up in Chester County and was a 1955 graduate of Chester County High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years as a Flight Engineer with Flight Squadron VAH4.
He married Patricia King of Henderson, and they made their home in Memphis for 32 years before returning to Chester County after retiring in 1985. He was a Criminal Investigator for the Memphis City Police Department, retiring as Sergeant in 1985, serving just over 20 years.
He was an active member of Meridian Baptist Church in Jackson having served as a Deacon, Trustee and on various committees
He was an avid quail hunter and was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia King Wheatley of Henderson; a daughter, Karol (Bryan) Jones of Henderson; and two grandchildren, Caitlin E. Jones and Benjamin E. Jones.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Wheatley; and one sister, Peggy Wadley.
