Edward Long ‘Ed’ Cherry, 86, of Henderson passed away Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021 at his home in Henderson. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Branson Barnes officiating. Burial followed at Unity Cemetery. The family received friends from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel.
He was born Aug. 3, 1935 in Chester County, the Talley Road Community and lived there most of his life. He is the son of the late Robert Long and Sarah Bishop Cherry. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1956 and married Thelma Smith in 1957. He worked for Turner Dairy and then drove a bus for Freed-Hardeman. He worked for Pepsi Cola and then at Guinn Brothers Automotive. He worked as an attendant at the Solid Waste Center for several years.
Mrs. Thelma Cherry passed away in 2016.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie (Kim) Cherry and Ray (Cindy) Cherry both of Henderson; four grandchildren, Chad (Keisha) Cherry, Chris Cherry, Alex Cherry and Cody Cherry; and two great-grandchildren, Case Cherry and Jase Cherry.
He was preceded in death by parents; his wife; a son, Charles Cherry; one daughter, Jennifer Cherry; two brothers, Robert Cherry and Francis Cherry; and a sister, Susie Johnson.
