In collaboration with the Cancer Research Institute of West Tennessee, the Lion and Lady Lion basketball teams will take a stand against cancer on Saturday, Jan. 27. Both Freed-Hardeman University games against University of the Cumberlands will be designated Coaches vs. Cancer games, with all gate receipts and any additional gifts to be donated to the Cancer Research Institute of West Tennessee. The women play at 1 p.m. while the men play at 3 p.m., all in the Brewer Sports Center.
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide partnership between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The program empowers coaches, their teams and the college basketball community to make a difference in helping to end cancer for everyone.
Saturday’s games will also honor two current Lionbackers, who have themselves battled cancer, by making them honorary coaches. Allison Cross will serve as honorary coach for the women, and Jason Judd will be the honorary men’s coach for the day.
FHU students, faculty and staff, as well as the Henderson community, are invited to come cheer on the Lions and Lady Lions while also taking a stand against cancer.
