H.C. Cummings, 82, of Enville passed away Sept. 2, 2020 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Graveside services were 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Chester County Memory Gardens with Bro. Roger L. Hatch officiating. The family received friends at the graveside from 2 p.m. until service time.
He was born Jan. 27, 1938 in Chester County, the son of the late Norman Clifton and Mamie Mary Elizabeth Alexander Cummings. He grew up in Chester County.
As a young man, he began working for Cecil Watkins Well Service then Jack Carrington Well Service for a combined total of 25 years. He then worked for TDOT for 15 years when he retired. He married Norma Jean Redden in 1958, and they had two children. He later married Johnnie Ann Montgomery, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 31, 2018.
He is survived by a son, Chris (April) Cummings of Pinson; one daughter, Mitzi Regina (Michael) Hatch of Henderson; five grandchildren, Tracy Attaway-Bray, Becky (Tracy) Watkins, Christopher (Ginger) Hatch, Chris (Madison) Cummings, II and Jonathan (Amy) Sipes; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, David Austin of Jackson; and two sisters, Ruby Jeter of Jackson and Linda King of Munford.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Johnnie Ann Cummings on Oct. 31, 2018; a grandson, Brayden Watkins; and one sister, Betty Sue Plunk.
