Eugenia Willis Tedford, 85, of Henderson passed away May 10, 2020 at her home from complications of cancer.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Ronnie Geary officiating.
Burial followed in Sweetlips Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue at 11 a.m. Tuesday until service time.
She was born Dec. 4, 1934, the daughter of the late Clyde and Victoria Moore Willis of Enville. She grew up during the depression and knew of the value of hard work and sacrifice. She met Jeff Tedford, Jr. when she was 19 years old. They were married on Oct. 31, 1953. Jeff, Jr. found work in Peoria, Ill., at Caterpillar, and they moved there. After, their first child, Ricky Tedford, was born in 1955. They wanted to be closer to family and decided to move back to Sweetlips where they permanently resided, and a daughter, Patty Tedford Cupples, was born in 1967.
She worked at various sewing factories and picked cotton on the farm. She was a homemaker and caretaker for her parents, mother-in-law, Eula Tedford, aunt, Bernice Davidson and finally her husband, Jeff Tedford, Jr., who preceded her in death in January 1988. She had lived by herself since that time.
She always put others first, willing to help anyone. She made sure if you visited her you did not leave hungry, always offering something to eat. She would show up to help if she knew you were working in the garden or anything else. She would even come to the hayfield and drive the truck for Ricky.
She was a humble, Christian woman of faith. She never complained. Even in sickness, she encouraged her family. She loved her church family and community. She attended Sweetlips Baptist Church where her son Ricky Tedford preaches. She loved visits with her family, and her great-grandchildren brought her heart happiness.
She is survived by her children, Ricky (Beverly) Tedford and Patty (Mark) Tedford Cupples; her grandchildren, Seth (Katie) Tedford, Tiffany (Zak) Young, Landon Cupples and Caleb Cupples; her great-grandchildren; a beloved brother, Don (Francis) Willis; and a sister, Carol Langendorf.
