Jerry Glenn Ada, 78, of Henderson passed away Friday afternoon, Oct. 23, 2020 at Jackson General Hospital. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday at Shackelford Funeral Directors East Main with Don Shull officiating.
Burial followed at Chester County Memory Gardens with Military Honors. The family received friends at Shackelford-East Main Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
He was born in the Deanburg Community of Chester County, the son of Margaret Frances Rowland Ada and the late Charles Benton Ada. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1960 and entered the United States Air Force in Oct. 1960.
He was stationed in Canada, Louisiana, and Massachusetts serving as a radio operator. While serving in the Air Force he played on the base’s baseball and basketball teams. He married Brenda Meek in 1965. They made their home in Memphis where he worked for UPS in management. While in Memphis he coached at Harding Academy-Wooddale. They moved to Memphis in 1994.
He was very involved in the Chester County Senior Citizens. He helped develop the outdoor nature area, pavilion and walking trial. He was a member of the Brain Games, loved to play cards and was well known for his wit.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda Meek Ada; a son, Joe (Mary Beth) Ada of Murfreesboro; one daughter, Tammy (Randy) Perry of Beech Bluff; a brother, Tommy (Donette) Ada of Homer, Ill.; one sister, Carolyn Griffin of Finger; five grandchildren, Danny (Jordan) Morrison, Jessica (Caleb) Hudson, Faith Ada, Grace Ada and Dylan Ada; four great-grandchildren, Danny Hudson, Chris Hudson, Jake Hudson and Benton Morrison; and multiple nieces and nephews.
