James Calier Steed, 89, of Henderson passed away Aug. 31, 2020 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at First United Methodist Church with Tom Spellings and Susan Steed Winn officiating. Burial will follow in Henderson City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. at the church.
He was born in Memphis and grew up in Henderson, the son of the late Asa Calice and Ida Burnette Steed. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1950.
He married Patsy Stewart in 1954. He was a livestock Auctioneer and worked at Grinnell Corp. He farmed all of his life, row cropping and raising cattle. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
He served in the Tennessee National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Stewart Steed of Henderson; two sons, Dr. James Richard (Alesia) Steed of Bethel Springs and John Thomas (Katherine) Steed of Knoxville; two daughters, Susan (Edward) Steed Winn of Thompson Station and Jeannie (Jeff) Steed Greathouse of Richmond, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Smith of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Steed.
