LARRY BYRD Obituary – June 12, 1944 – Jan. 13, 2020

Robert Larry Byrd, 75, of Henderson passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2020 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Hirman Harrison and John Talbott officiating. Burial will follow at Montezuma Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
He was born June 12, 1944 at Covington, the son of the late Stanley and Doris Sage Byrd. He graduated from Frazier High School in Memphis and attended Memphis State where he studied criminal justice.
He worked for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and later as an x-ray technician at St. Frances Hospital in Memphis. He was a diver’s instructor at C. F. Trucking, where he retired. He lived in Honduras for three years and owned and operated a karaoke business. He married Linda Millner Marsh in 2004, and they made their home in the Montezuma Community.
He was a member of the Montezuma Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was the song leader. He was an accomplished trumpet player, having played with Ace Cannon. He was an avid deer hunter and loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Gale Millner Marsh Byrd of Henderson.
