Vicki Dickson – April 6, 1952

Funeral services for Vicki Jewel (Ross) Dickson will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel with Shane Connor and Keith Carlson officiating. Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery. The family received friends at East Main from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday.
Instead of flowers or gifts, please donate in her name to the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Chester County or the American Cancer Society.
She was born April 6, 1952, in Henderson County, to the late Ray Ross and Freeder Johnson Ross. The youngest of four siblings, she was raised in Chester County. She graduated from Chester County High School in 1970 and studied accounting at Jackson State Community College. She married the love of her life, Billy Dickson, in 1971, and they made their home in Jacks Creek. She began her career at Chester County Sportswear, where she was the office manager for many years. She retired in 2018 from Henderson Stamping, where she was the human resources manager.
She had two daughters, and she was involved in their school events and was a Girl Scout leader when the girls were young.
More recently, she was a member of the board for the Chester County Chamber of Commerce and the advisory board for the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. She also volunteered for Relay for Life and the Chester County Elections Committee. She had been working part-time at Farm Bureau in Henderson. She loved her community.
She was very involved in the church throughout her life and was a member of Sanford Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling with her church groups and her friends. She loved to sing and was even in a gospel group. She recorded an album in the early 2000s. Her beautiful voice will be missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Kami (Keith) Carlson and Keisha (Donald) Jones, both of Henderson; five grandsons who were her pride and joy, Victor, Alex, Aiden, Peter, and Brendan; and two siblings, Patsy Patton and Frankie Ross.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Terry Ross; and her husband, Billy.

DANNY SMITH – Sept, 8, 1943 – Feb. 12, 2024

Danny Burl Smith, 80, of Finger passed away Feb. 12, 2024, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Tracy Snider and Kyle Scott officiating. Burial will follow at Chester County Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. service time on Friday.
He was born Sept. 8, 1943, in McNairy County, the Good Hope Community and grew up in Chester County, the son of the late Richard David and Annie Rickman Smith. He graduated from Chester County High School in 1961.  
He worked at Brown Shoe Company, then as parts manager at Motor Parts in Henderson, then Henderson Truck and Tractor and finally at Jackson Tractor Company for a total of 32 and a half years.
He was long haul mail carrier for Barclay and later Pat Salmon in Memphis, retiring in 2009 after driving 11 years.
He was an avid New York Mets fan, listening to all their games, and his favorite colors were Mets orange and blue. He was looking forward to the Mets spring training. He enjoyed putting puzzles together, but his greatest joy was bragging on his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Elizabeth Maness Smith; a son, Duran (Kimberly) Smith of Brevard, N.C.; two daughters, Angela R. (Christopher) Smith Scott of Henderson and Paula (Kevin) Smith Fowler of Fairview; four grandchildren, Christopher Kyle Scott, Dylan Blake Fowler, Garrett Thomas Fowler and Mia Elizabeth Smith; and a great-grandchild, Grayson Blake Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Otral Smith, R.D. Smith, Bill Smith and Max Smith; and a sister, Glenda Robison.
