Mr. Richard Garland Mills, 87, of Henderson passed away Tuesday evening at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 29, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – East Main Chapel. Burial was at Henderson City Cemetery.
He was born July 29, 1935, son of the late Garland and Maudie Rae Crew Mills.
He married Jo Ann Warner on May 14, 1960, and they were married 43 years when she passed away in 2003. They made their home in Henderson.
He joined the US Army after high school and served as a medic in Germany. He then served in the TN Army National Guard for many years retiring in 1992 as Staff Sergeant. He worked as a welder and a die grinder at Grinnell then later at Anvil in Henderson. He enjoyed camping, fishing and watching westerns and wrestling.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Bill) Mitchell and Penny (Gary) Green both of Henderson; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two sons, Johnny Mills and Kenneth Mills.
