The Chester County Eagles returned to the field Monday morning for their second 7-on-7 competition of the summer, hosting Riverside High School.
During the portion of the scrimmage observed by the Independent, the Eagles showed flashes of what they can become but also experienced some growing pains. A couple of defensive breakdowns led to Riverside touchdowns, but Chester County answered with scoring plays of its own as the teams traded big plays throughout the morning.
Head coach Dewond Johnson said consistency remains the biggest area of focus for his team as summer workouts continue.
“I was looking for consistency,” Johnson said following the scrimmage. “We were not consistent. We must mature, and I mean mature fast.”
The Eagles have shown the ability to compete through their first two summer competitions, but Johnson believes the next step is eliminating mental mistakes and maintaining the same level of execution from snap to snap.
Despite the inconsistencies, Chester County continues to gain valuable experience as players learn the system and build chemistry ahead of the fall season.
The Eagles will travel to Bolivar on Thursday before hosting Bolivar on June 16 in their final 7-on-7 event before the TSSAA dead period begins on June 22.
