Johnnie Weaver of Henderson Tennessee picked 98 pounds of cotton in two hours to take top honors in the 24th annual National Cotton Picking Contest in Blytheville, Ark., on Oct. 4, 1963. He received $1,000 in cash and a “million-dollar” kiss from the contest queen. Mrs. Martha Adams of Leachville, Ark., picked 81 pounds of cotton to win the $250 first place in the women’s division. Later that night at the “Cotton Bowl” music was provided by the Bill Black Combo for the final event of the contest.
