Freed-Hardeman University’s Loyd Auditorium holds decades of memories for alumni and friends of the university. It is the venue for such annual events as Lectureship, Makin’ Music, Horizons, RUSH, benefit dinners, commencements and a host of other campus activities including daily chapel. As plans are underway to renovate the 47-year-old auditorium, the university is offering individuals the opportunity to name new seats in the building. The extensive transformation of the auditorium is part of FHU Next, an ongoing capital campaign for campus improvements.
With a gift of $1,200, donors will have the exclusive privilege of naming a seat on the main floor, while a gift of $600 provides the opportunity to name a seat in the balcony area. This contribution will directly support Freed-Hardeman’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional educational experiences for deserving students.
Loyd Auditorium renovations will include an elevator, new paint, ceiling tiles, stage and curtains, flooring, a sound and audio-visual system and seating. In addition, expanded and improved restrooms and a portico for arrivals and departures are in the plans.
“As we embark on these transformative renovations, we are reminded of the Lord’s provision through the generosity of our alumni and friends,” FHU President David R. Shannon said. “Their commitment to fostering an environment where faith and intellect intertwine is truly inspiring. Each named seat is not just a place to sit; it is a space where the legacy of our donors’ faithfulness will continue to encourage academic and spiritual growth for years to come.”
FHU Senior Vice President Dave Clouse added, “In every seat that will adorn Loyd Auditorium, there lies a story — a narrative of dedication, faith and the collective spirit of our Freed-Hardeman family.”
Due to the nature of the renovation, specific seat reservations will not be possible. However, name plates will be placed in the order they are received (from the front to the back of the auditorium) and positioned prominently on the armrest. FHU offers the option of a one-time gift or recurring monthly gifts for up to 24 months.
