Mrs. Jean Yvonne Latham Jones, 84, of Henderson passed away Thursday evening, March 2, 2023, at her home. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Henderson – Crook Avenue Chapel with burial following in New Friendship Cemetery. The family received friends from noon-2 p.m. Sunday at Crook Avenue Chapel.
She was born March 15, 1938, in Henderson, daughter of the late Obie Frank and Exie Griffin Latham. She was a 1957 graduate of Chester County High School, was an awesome basketball player and played the position of guard on the team that won the District Tournament her graduating year.
She married Donald Jones on April 20, 1957, and they were married just shy of 66 years. While primarily a homemaker she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She worked along with her husband and sons on the farm, loved gardening, picking cotton and growing roses, tulips and many other flowers and quilting. She loved her grandchildren and was of great help in raising them as well.
In addition to her role at home, she and her family served as the custodians at Antioch Baptist Church for several years. She was an active member, cooked many meals for families and enjoyed quilting with the ladies group. She also took care of the flowers and landscaping at Prime Care in Henderson and had worked for Fowler’s Grocery (her sister’s store) in Beech Bluff.
She is survived by her husband Donald Jones; three sons Donnie (Lynn) Jones and Danny Jones both of Beech Bluff and Darrell (Cindy) Jones of Henderson; four grandchildren, Michael (Candice) Jones, Matthew Jones, Dustin (Rebecca) Jones and Morgan Jones (longtime friend Hannah Brake); three great-grandchildren, Savannah, Easton and Noelle Gloria Jones; a brother, Jerry Latham of Milan; and two sisters, JoAnn Williams of Jackson and Dorothy Gaddy of Henderson.
She was preceded by her parents; two brothers, Wayne “Mick” and Billy Frank Latham; and two sisters Nadine Plunk and Joyce Fowler.
